Blue Orb Culture
Before I started Blue Orb Tours I researched, worked with and for local tours companies and took every major tour in town to get a feel for what Savannah tour companies had to offer… or weren’t offering. As a Savannah outsider and avid tourist to the city myself I found the majority of my experiences unsatisfying, gimmicky, ego-heavy and shallow. I began developing from a tourist and Savannah lovers perspective a tour company that was 6 years in the making from conception to roll out. The fruit of that labor is Blue Orb Tours.
Blue Orb focuses on constant detailed research and fact checking, incorporating new phenomena into the timeless Savannah tales and an open minded but critical approach to the paranormal that is delivered uncensored in the style of classic storytelling. The focus at Blue Orb is simply put, on quality. From our stories and tour routes to the guides we choose.
There are tours a plenty in Savannah and some of them aren’t bad but because most are repetitive in nature there is very little true variety or depth. That is why Blue Orb focuses on walking tours exclusively. Trolleys and buses are not allowed to stop at locations in the city of Savannah so visitors are left listening to loop recordings on a dated monitor or trying to decipher garble through a guides loudspeaker as they cruise by Savannah’s richest history. Blue Orb takes you on a leisurely stroll filled with compelling stories that usually last about 15 minutes per stop rather than 15 seconds. By incorporating fewer stops into each route we are able to give more depth, access and understanding to each location as well as give you time to take photos, ask questions and look around for yourself.
Blue Orb compensates its guides better than any tour company in Savannah. I personally train each guide and pick the people with the best potential to equip them to effectively represent Blue Orb Tours and be a positive face for tourism in the city of Savannah. We give them the resources and training to develop their own stories, do their own research and be proactive in their own tour promotion. We respect each guides unique style and talents and therefore do not wear uniforms or push gimmicks and period costumes. Blue Orb wants its patrons to be able to take the same tour route twice or more if they choose and be able to hear different stories and enjoy a unique style with every guide they encounter. In doing so not only do we offer variety within a particular route but in each guide as well.
Ultimately, we believe that offering quality and variety wins the day rather than discount coupons, giveaways and self promoting contests. The stars and allure of Savannah are the stories, the people that lived them and the locations that mark their legacy.
